Spruce Root empowering North Slope
entrepreneurs with business boot camp
|
|
In August, members from our Spruce Root team traveled to Utqiagvik, Alaska, to host a business boot camp for 10 entrepreneurs from across Alaska’s North Slope.
Over the course of three days, the team dove deep into business planning, mapped out metrics for measuring social and environmental impact, bonded during walks along the Arctic Ocean, and so much more.
We are grateful to partner with McKinley Alaska Growth Capital to bring our signature Path to Prosperity programming to other regions in Alaska! And also to the incredible entrepreneurs who approached this training with such enthusiasm and tenacity!

In September, Program Director for Technical Assistance Ashley Snookes traveled to Dallas, Texas, to attend the International Economic Development Council annual conference.
Some key takeaways from the conference were how Spruce Root and its partners can play a lead in shifting the region toward regenerative jobs; how to get feedback from other stakeholders on your marketing strategy and get feedback on dos and don’ts; and how to work in alignment with your values.
During the conference, Spruce Root was awarded three 2023 Excellence in Economic Development Awards from the International Economic Development Council.

From creativity to commerce: Haines
artists pursue business success
|
|
In early October, Izzy Haywood, Shaelene Grace Moler and Marc Wheeler traveled to Haines to facilitate a two-day Business Basics for Artists workshop, organized in partnership with the Chilkoot Indian Association.
A small group of Native and non-Native artists was highly engaged in the material, which covered art industry analysis, business planning, break-even analysis, branding and marketing, legal entities and licensing.
Representatives from Voyij.com also presented on marketing art to cruise ships.
Are you an artist who is looking for business advice? Connect with one of our business coaches and look out for a future Business Basics for Artists workshop.
